Curatorial Assistant #
We are hiring a Curatorial Assistant for the summer employment term.

Eligibility
Candidates must meet the requirements for Canada Summer Jobs or Young Canada Works:
- Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada,
- Legally entitled to work in Canada, and
- Between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- For Young Canada Works, you must be a high school, college, CEGEP or university student.
Employment Period and Hours
- 37.5 hours/week (5 days a week for 7.5 hours a day)
- May through August
- Remuneration: $18.00/hour

Job Description
This opening is for 1 full time position, 37.5 hours/week, Thursday through Monday. The primary role of the Curatorial Assistant is to help with the documentation of the Pioneer Acres library materials and artifacts, to guide tours, and to provide customer service to visitors of Pioneer Acres. This role also includes creating content suitable to use on Pioneer Acres' social media channels.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include:
- Being a first point of contact for visitors to Pioneer Acres, taking admissions, and guiding visitors and groups on tours of our grounds, providing information, and endeavoring to answer questions that may arise.
- Perform museum opening and closing procedures.
- Artifact cataloguing in the PastPerfect database.
- Properly assess, handle and store artifacts and library materials that align with best techniques and practices.
- Create content for all Pioneer Acres social media platforms.
- Assist with public reference requests for information by phone, email and in-person as needed.
- Assist with events, marketing and other Pioneer Acres programming as required.
Here are some of the qualities we are looking for:
- Fit the criteria under either the Canada Summer Jobs or Young Canada Works grants.
- Have an interest in local history and pursuing a career in the museum or history field.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office is an asset.
- Data entry skills and knowledge of database functions is an asset.
- Prior experience with cataloging is preferable but not necessary.
- Ability to manage a social media platform.
- The ability to initiate and carry out projects independently and work closely with the curator is required.
