Pioneer Acres of Alberta is a history museum containing multiple exhibit spaces including the Grain Academy, the Pioneer Truck Museum, and an original homestead building.

Community Museum Technician #

We are seeking two employees for the position of Community Museum Technician for the summer employment term.

Employment Period and Hours

  • 16 week employment period (May through the end of August)
  • 35 hours/week (5 days a week for 7 hours a day)
  • Weekend work required
  • Remuneration: $18.00/hour
  • Museum Summer Hours:
    • Thursday through Monday
    • 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Tasks and Responsibilities

Typical duties include:

  • Escorting visitors on tours of our grounds, providing information and attempting to answer questions that may arise.
  • Researching, cataloguing and documenting our artifacts.
  • Creating signage and posters explaining the use and history of our artifacts.
  • Organizing, displaying, and caring for artifacts.
  • Assist with school tours and our other visitors as needed.
  • Light groundskeeping duties such as watering the historic gardens, painting fences, and maintaining the general order of the museum and site will be required.

Here are some of the qualities we are looking for:

  • Attention to detail - particularly in historical accuracy.
  • Enjoy working with children and adults.
  • Excellent speaking skills in English and comfortable speaking in front of groups.

Employment is conditional upon the organization receiving funding from Canada Summer Jobs Program. As such, you must be between 15 and 30 years of age to apply.
