17 HP Fairbanks Morse

Description: This engine was typical of the type of engine that the Alberta Wheat Pool would have used to power a grain elevator. The AWP would have run the engine on gasoline, but it could also burn kerosene with water injection.

It featured a fully enclosed crankcase and governor. It required a minimum 250 gallon tank of water for cooling, which was only circulated by convection or thermo-syphon. The engine also had a compression release to enable it to be hand started.

Description: This engine was probably manufactured for Cockshutt. The governor was a flyball, hit-and-miss design. It had an open water hopper used for evaporative cooling. An engine of this type could have been used to pump water or to run equipment such as a fanning mill.
